Circulations multiples

L’appartement dans le quartier nommé Segbroek à La Haye se situe au 1er et 2ème étage d’une maison en bande, construite en 1987 avec une façade plutôt banale côté rue. Toute la qualité de cet appartement se développe à l’intérieur avec des hauteurs sous plafond généreuses et une belle terrasse côté jardin, orienté ouest. L’espace de vie avec la cuisine, le salon, la salle à manger et un coin bibliothèque se situe au premier étage.

La propriétaire a souhaité ouvrir la pièce traversant du séjour et de la salle à manger vers la cuisine, respectivement vers la terrasse côté jardin. Pour créer cette ouverture et cette générosité d’espace et pour apporter davantage de la lumière venant du jardin intérieur, il a été décidé de démolir le mur en biais entre la cuisine et la pièce principale. Les charges de l’étage supérieur et du toit ont été repris par un système de poutrelles en acier. De plus elle a demandé d’ouvrir la pièce vers la cage d’escalier en supprimant les portes existantes et en faisant une ouverture centrale.

L’espace de vie s’est élargi avec ses aménagements vers l’entrée et vers la cuisine créant ainsi un espace qui rappelle des lofts, sans perdre la séparation visuelle entre la salle à manger vers les toilettes et le débarras. L’aménagement a surtout permis de fabriquer une multitude de circulations entre les pièces, qui se caractérise par une belle luminosité et une vue très large sur le balcon et la cour intérieure du bloc.

Multiple circulations

The apartment is situated on the 1st and 2nd floor of a row house in the district named Segbroek in The Hague. It was built in 1987 and has a rather banal street facade. The real qualities of this apartment develop indoors, with generous ceiling heights and a beautiful garden side terrace, facing west. The living area with the kitchen, the living room, the dining area and a library corner is located on the first floor.

The owner of the apartment wanted to connect the dining area directly with the kitchen and further on with the terrace. To create this opening and this generosity of space and in order to bring in more daylight from the inner garden, it was decided to demolish the wall in the angle between the kitchen and the main room. The loads of the upper floor and the roof were diverged by a system of steel joists. In addition to that, the owner wished to open the living room to the staircase by removing the existing doors and making a central opening.

Due to these modifications the living space has been considerable extended including the entrance and the kitchen, creating a space that recalls lofts, without losing the necessary visual separation between the dining area and the toilet and storage room. The new layout has generated a multitude of circulations between the rooms, which are now characterized by a beautiful luminosity and a very wide view on the balcony and the inner courtyard of the city block.
